Electric vehicle charging process
Select charging method ▷ Select payment method (membership card) ▷ Tag the SOCAR charging card ▷ Connect the vehicle to a charging connector appropriate for the vehicle model ▷ Disconnect after charging is completed
1. Open the charging port
- KONA EV, Bolt EV, Niro EV, EV6, Polestar 2: Press the charging port lightly to open it.
- IONIQ 5: Press the indicator on the charging port to open it.
※ If the charging port of IONIQ 5 does not open, you can press the voice recognition button on the steering wheel, and use voice recognition by saying such as “Open the charging door,” to control it.
2. Select charging method
From the charger, select the charging connector appropriate for vehicle model. Enter your mobile phone number to be notified when charging is completed.
KONA EV, Bolt EV, IONIQ EV, IONIQ 5, Niro EV, EV6, Polestar 2
- For fast charging: Use DC combo type (remove the rubber stopper after opening the charging port to connect)
- For slow chargin: Use AC single-phase 5-pin type
3. Select payment method
To make payment, select Membership Card and tag SOCAR charging card.
The SOCAR charging card is attached to the reader in front of the dashboard. Tag your membership card lightly in the membership card contact area, not in the payment card insertion hole.
※ SOCAR-only charging card cannot be use to charge or pay for vehicles other than the vehicle that it belongs to.
※ If the payment is made with a personal credit card when charging an electric vehicle, a refund for the cost cannot be made.
※ Make sure to return the SOCAR-only charging card to its original place after use. A penalty may be charged if the card is lost.
4. Check the charging connector and connect it
When membership card recognition is completed, the charging connector storage box opens automatically. Choose the charging connector appropriate for the vehicle model and connect it to the charging port to prepare for charging. For some charging devices, charging starts after pressing the Start Charging button. Make sure to check whether charging starts after connecting the connector.
※ Fast charging: Takes 40 to 60 minutes / Slow charging: Takes 9 hours (Charging times vary depending on vehicles. If you do not have time to spare, fast charging is recommended.)
※ If you need to leave for urgent business while charging, leave your contact information on the windshield. Please consider other users.
5. Disconnect after charging is completed
When charging is completed, press the Complete Charging button and disconnect the charging connector connected to the vehicle. Return the charging connector to the charger and close the connector box to complete charging.

Q. The charger screen is off.
A. Touch the charger screen lightly 2-3 times.
Q. The charging connector cannot be disconnected.
A. Press the fixing button on the top of the connector to disconnect it. If it is still not disconnected, check if the vehicle door is open. If it is charging, finish charging and try again.
Q. Should I pay parking fee when charging an electric vehicle?
A. It varies depending on the charging station. Some stations offer discounts on parking for electric vehicle charging. Inquire the parking lot manager when exiting the parking lot.
Q. When do I need to charge an electric vehicle?
A. If the remaining driving range indicated on the dashboard is less than 30km, you must charge the vehicle. However, in order to use it safely and sufficiently, it is recommended to charge it occasionally, even if the range is longer than 30km.
※ A vehicle must be returned with at least 10% charge (remaining battery level). If the next user's vehicle operation is disrupted because it is returned with less than 10% of charge, a penalty of KRW 10,000 and actual expenses (consignment and towing fees) may be charged.
※ If a vehicle stops due to lack of charge, it may lead to a traffic accident.
※ If a vehicle is returned with more than 50% of charge after used for 4 hours or longer, a charging bonus credit will be awarded. (Credits awarded vary depending on conditions and only apply to cases where a charging history of 5% or more within the rental hours is confirmed.) ☞ See the details.
